Industrial Applications
Purafil's original markets were corrosion control in the industrial sector:
- Petrochemical
- Pharmaceutical
- Power Generation
- Pulp and Paper
- Refineries
- Steel
- Textiles
These industries are known for generating acid gases such as hydrogen sulphide,
sulphur dioxide and NOx as well as caustic gases and oxidising gases. These gases
combine with moisture in the air to create environments which corrode electrical
and electronic equipment. As well as pioneering the development of air quality
and design standards to define how to overcome these corrosion problems, Purafil
have also developed a world leading range of filtration media, filtration equipment
and monitoring equipment to control and eliminate the acid gases.

Cleanroom Applications
The importance of all of these original industrial sectors remains today, despite
the development of new industrial markets such as:
- Electronics
- Microelectronics
- Semiconductor
The requirements of these industries differ from Purafil's original industrial
sectors. For instance, microelectronics manufacturers have long been aware of
the detrimental effects of Airborne Molecular Contamination (AMC) on product quality
and production yield. As the circuit density of semiconductors continues to increase
(doubling every 18 months), the effects of gas-phase chemical contaminants, or
AMC, is becoming more and more significant. AMC is responsible for adversely affecting
several critical steps in the processing of a silicone wafer. Sources of AMC can
range from process chemicals to poor outdoor air quality. Purafil has developed
a three-step process to control AMC. This includes assessing the severity of AMC
in a given environment, eliminating AMC via dry-chemical filtration, and verifying
the performance of control methods using real-time, environmental reactivity monitors.

Purafil's Environmental Assessment Service is designed to characterize the reactive
potential of an environment.
As part of the assessment, Purafil uses Environmental Reactivity Coupons to determine
the types and levels of molecular contaminants present before AMC control measures
are implemented. This assessment strategy is a reliable, yet cost-effective means
of gathering the information necessary to better understand your environment. |
Purafil offers a wide selection of dry-scrubbing chemical media for control of
virtually any AMC challenge. These media are the heart of the Purafilter™ and
other Purafil dry-chemical filtration systems. |
Purafil's patented OnGuard® Environmental Reactivity Monitor provides the continuous,
real-time data necessary to identify AMC episodes and to verify the performance
of chemical filters. | |
